As my husband wasn’t an experienced pilot we always got into some major problem each time he decided to fly us somewhere. He had to go to a meeting in Atlanta so he flew us down from Washington DC. In a little plane it is a pretty long flight as they only go as fast as a car. About half way from Washington to Atlanta we hit really strong head winds in our little piper cub. As we were flying he of course was in contact with different control towers along the way. He didn’t want me to hear what he was saying to the control tower as he was at a loss as what to do with the very high head winds. He kept flying higher and higher hoping he would get out of the storm. I looked down and saw that we were flying backwards. The winds were hurricane like winds and were faster than the speed of the plane. I immediately gave him hell that we had to get down right away. He did obey. We landed at the next little airport. After we got down we were waiting out the storm with another pilot. The other pilot was flying a huge jet and we were flying a craft about the size of a Volkswagen. The pilot was saying he had rarely hit such high headwinds and he came down right away. My husband just turned red as there is no way a little plane could stand head winds like that if a huge jet couldn’t. I didn’t fly with my husband any more after that!
